Chris Thomas King

operated his 21st Century Blues cottage industry from an office near his Uptown New Orleans home. Then Katrina hit, wrecking his office and flooding his rised house with 8 feet of water.
He begin writing songs in his first week of exile in Houston, including "What Would Jesus Do?," an understated meditation on the moral implications of taking bread and water for survival.

"Seeing how they were reporting on us on TV, and that when people needed water, people were pointing guns at them, . . . that got me asking the question, 'What would Jesus do in this situation?' " King said. "Would he bust that window out to get some Pampers or medicine or water, whatever children and elderly people needed? That's when those lyrics started forming."

 The weekend after the storm, King traveled to Nashville, Tenn., from Houston for a previously scheduled gig. Afterward, a coalition of Nashville musicians volunteered to record "What Would Jesus Do?" The track is the first single and video from the forthcoming "Rise."
